Bio Fuel and Water purifier from a Fish

Janitor Fish (Hypostomus plecostomus) is often referred to as the Common Pleco, and is very widely available. Unfortunately, many beginning aquarists do not realize how big this fish will grow, nor do they realize that as the fish ages, it may become more agressive, especially to other plecos. It is a very hardy fish however, and is a nice addition to larger tanks. When of a proper size is able to hold its own with most other fishes. It is often thought of as only an algae eater, but while it eats algae very effectively, its diet should be supplimented with other foods, including sinking pellets, romaine lettuce, parboiled zucchini, sweet potato, squash, and green peas. Driftwood should be included in the tank. Plecos will often eat live plants in the tank. When purchasing a specimen, do not buy fish with hollow stomachs as this indicates the fish has not eaten recently, and will most likely not survive long after the trip home.

www.marikina.gov.ph: The 16-year-old high school student from Marikina who converted extracted oil from janitor fish (Hypostomus plecoctomus) into bio-fuel for his Science experiment will fly to Indianapolis, U.S.A. bearing the country’s colors in May 2006 for the annual Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

Raymond Joseph Amurao, a fourth year student of Marikina Science High School along with other students from different schools, was chosen to represent the country after bagging the grand prize in the national level of the competition sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

ISEF is the world’s largest science competition for high school-aged students held annually, which brings together over 1,400 students from more than 40 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, scientific field trips and the grand prize of $50,000.

www.llda.gov.ph: Janitor Fish is not only a source of raw material for production of animal feeds, it can also be used from head to tail and from skin to bones. Janitor fish to bio-fuel, now comes janitor fish bones as water purifier.

Janet Amurao, a Marikina public school teacher and the mother of whizkid Raymond who won third place in the International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States last May, has revealed that Raymond and other students are conducting research on how to use janitor fish bones as water purifier.

  6. [...] diesel creation is now a hobby and not an invention. My first blog post about bio diesel is about a Filipino inventor who invented a bio diesel from a janitor fish. Do you know that your diesel motor will run better [...]

  7. hi!
sana mag work out din ung study ko about that janitor fish if it could be a possible antimicrobial agent!
thanks for giving me an idea!!

  8. oi pre anu ba email ad mo?

-Pilipinas Sierra Mountaineering and Outdoor Club inc.-
