October 9, 2006 it was officially announced that YouTube would be bought by Google for US$1.65 billion in shares. From an initial investment of almost $15 Million dollars way back November of 2005. YouTube will continue to retain its brand, as well as all of the employees, including co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.
