Julian Banzon - Filipino Chemist: Filipino chemist, Julian Banzon researched methods of producing alternative fuels. Julian Banzon experimented with the production of ethyl esters fuels from sugarcane and coconut, and invented a means of extracting residual coconut oil by a chemical process rather than a physical process.
Julian Banzon - Degrees:

Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from Iowa State University - 1940
Julian Banzon - Awards:
1980: Distinguished Service Award - Integrated Chemist of the Philippines, Inc.

Agapito Flores was born in Guiguinto, Bulacan, Philippines on September 28, 1897. He worked as an apprentice in a machine shop and later moved to Tondo, Manila where he trained at a vocational school to become an electrician.
It has been reported that Agapito Flores received a French patent for a fluorescent bulb and that the General Electric Company bought Flores’ patent rights and manufactured and sold his fluorescent bulb (making millions from it).
The Agapito Flores controversy continues - Agapito Flores has been acclaimed by some as being the inventor of the first fluorescent lamp. However, the dates are all wrong for this being possible. The following points have been taken from “The History of Fluorescent Lights”.

Pinoy scientists are great! However, they need support both from the private sectors and the gov’t. Especially scientists without or little funds to continue their research or make their inventions patented. If gov’t fails to support them, we’re losing economic gains!

It will never happen. I’ve seen Daniel Dingle’ demonstration video. I believe his watercar works but he’s explaination is amateurish and unscientific. You can do one yourself cheaply. Use stainless steel submerged in water and salt using a 12 volt battery. Sindihan ninyo ang mga bula. Ang lakas ng putok.

This Agapito Flores acclaimed story is not completely true. Yes, he did invent a local flourescent bulb but GE has already patented an earlier invention of a fluorescent bulb. And if you believe in what they say that fluorescence is named after Flores, hence flourescent = Flores, you’re mistaken. Floures cames from the greek word which means bright and escent means “to make”.

Naririnig ko sa mga Filipino Inventors natin ang mga Scientist na wala silang natatanggap na suporta galing sa ating pamahalaan. Ni ala nga atang budget para sa kanila ang ating gobyerno.
Proven naman na natin na napakaraming mga magagandang inventions na gawa ng mga Filipino Inventors pero anong nangyari sa mga inventions nila? Ibinebenta sa ibang bansa dahil ayaw supurtahan ng ating pamahalaan. Bakit hindi bigyan ng puhunan ng ating pamahalaan ang mga inventors na may mga magandang inventions para sa ganun tayo ang makinabang. Makikinabang naman ang gobyerno natin sa tax na magi generate ng mga nasabing inventions.
Hindi na natin mabilang ang mga inventions ng mga pinoy na pinakinabangan ng mga ibang bansa.
Sayang, ang Florecent Lamp di sana ang Philippine Government and nakikinabang sa royalty nito kung sinupurtahan dati. Ang tubig para patakbuhin ang sasakyan di sana pilipinas ang makikinabang dito, pero anong nangyari binili ng Japan ang nasabing invention at ngayun pinag aaralan na nila dun. Sayang ang mga talino ng mga pinoy….
