The Most Controversial “ERAP Documentary”
MTRCB chair Maria Consoliza Laguardia said the board cited four reasons for banning the documentary titled “Ang Mabuhay Para sa Masa (To Live for the Masses).â€
According to the board’s memorandum dated August 28, the Estrada documentary tended to “threaten the political stability of the state; undermine the faith and confidence of the people in the government; [be] libelous or defamatory; [pertained] to matters that are sub judice in nature.â€
The second board committee was chaired by lawyer Paulino Cases Jr., with members Fr. Nicasio Cruz and journalists Edmund Sicam, Orlando Ros Olgado and Mario Hernando.
According to the board decision, it was Sicam who pointed out that “the last three minutes of the [film]†provided the basis for the ban, particularly the narration: “nalalapit na ang bagong umaga dahil sa lakas ng puwersa ng masa at muli ng babangon [a new day is dawning because of the power of the masses that will rise again].â€
THE “triple X†rating that a government review board gave to a film documentary of former President Estrada shows the “extreme paranoia†of the government, one of Estrada’s sons said Thursday.
“It goes to show this government is living in paranoia,†Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito of San Juan said.
On Tuesday, the Movie and Television Review Classification Board assigned a “triple X†rating to the documentary To Live for the Masses. The rating bans the film from being shown in movie theaters and television networks.
“After my father has been detained for five years, the Arroyo administration is scared of President Estrada because it knows he has the support of the Filipinos,†Ejercito said. Via Manila Times
